Melbourne's Best Outdoor Adventures | Week 24 · June 2026

Something a little different this week. We now have nearly 6,000 adventure seekers in this community, and we wanted to take a moment to say welcome to those who joined us recently, and a heartfelt thank you for being with us as we build something for this community.

We started epyic because we believe the best lives are lived through shared adventures outside. Over the years, we've moved around the world a lot, and while it’s always been exciting, finding your people in a new place can be hard. The moments that changed that for us were often simple and unexpected. It was the hiking group that promised a magical sunrise and had you up at 3am on a Saturday, or the diving club that convinced us to jump into the water in the middle of winter. The manta rays will be worth it, they said. Well, they were right and we still remember that moment many years later. Most of all, it’s that sense of belonging, of showing up somewhere and instantly feeling like you belong. And that’s what we're trying to build.

The Thomson River cuts through one of Gippsland's most beautiful gorges, and this Saturday you could be on it. This full-day intro course puts you on Grade 2 whitewater near historic Walhalla, learning boat craft, paddling technique, and river safety from Paddy and Kelly, two of the most credentialled instructors you'll find anywhere in Australia.

This day wander with Luisa takes you to another world - first, there’s the emerald township of Noojee, with its mountain ash forest, mossy tracks, crisp air, and the 21m tall historic timber trestle bridge, one of the few remaining of its kind in Victoria. Then, a walk to Toorongo Falls and Amphitheatre Falls through a serene rainforest loop. A beautiful winter adventure.

On the other side of the Australian Alps, lies the Snowies. Home to Australia’s highest peak (Mount Kosciuszko), glacial lakes and one famous Banjo Paterson poem, The Man From Snowy River, which inspired the movie of the same name (Year 8 English anyone?). On this expedition, Chelsea takes you through snow-laden trails, steep ascents to eight peaks, and nights camping under a blanket of stars. This adventure will push you physically and mentally - Chelsea’s breathwork practices and expert guiding will see you come out the other side of it.

The backcountry truly opens up when you've got the right skills and the right people around you. Kelly leads this annual adventure to kickstart your journey into the alpine in a supportive environment and embrace the mountains together. It’ll cover backcountry touring, avalanche safety fundamentals, navigation and terrain awareness. Spots are limited and there’s only one a year so get in quick.

Skiing and snowboarding Mount Hotham, snowshoeing to an alpine eco-village for fondue and glühwein by the fire, kayaking the Gippsland Lakes, a whale watching cruise from Wilsons Prom, and a soak at the Metung Hot Springs with lake vistas. For the surfers, Nic has something just for you - a Snow to Surf version of the same trip - swap the kayaking for surf sessions along the Gippsland coastline. And he brings this to you through the eco-village he’s built on Mount Hotham, something unlike anything else in Australia. You’ll be snowshoeing through the snow gums to reach the village. Once you’ve arrived and taken in the beauty of your surroundings, you can huddle around the fire with your mulled wine, or gather into the heated tipi for a home made fondue lunch or dinner, with cheese specially imported from the Savoie region.
